Description

Border Height (界高): 20.4 Ruled line width (罫幅): 1.8
5 lines, 17 ch. per line
Heian period; attributed to the hand of Ono no Tōfū (894-966); The Great Perfection of Wisdom Sutra in the calligraphy of Tenroku 1 (970) (Heian-chō jidai; Den Ono no Tōfū hitsu; Tenroku gannen Dai hannya;
The identification states "attributed to" Ono no Tōfū, but the date it gives for the piece postdates Tōfū's life. It is reasonable to speculate that the attribution is a quote of some preceding source, while the date (970 CE) could have been based on the inscription accompanied the original scroll. The calligraphy is in Tōfū mode.
