行水にかすかくよりもはかなきは／おもはぬ人をおもふなりけり／
恨／
いはみかたによせて人の心のあらいそをおもひ／心からくたくるなみをはかなみまくつかはらの／あき風に心をあらはしこふるゝ露を／そてにうけあまのすむさとののしるへかと／うたかひてつもれる松のうらみとそなる色に／たとへせめてつらさのあまりに心うらむともみえ

Take the rocks as oneself, the human heart as a rocky coast battered by the waves of love
[just as] the heart is revealed in the riverbank’s autumn wind, and in sleeves overflowing with dew
there is a poem in which [Ono no Komachi declares] ‘I am not the guide to the villages where seafolk dwell…’* [the poet who] gazes upon the pine-thick bay can also be seen as the deeply aggrieved [lover] who gazes in wait [for one who does not come]
