Translation
KKS XI: 469 Topic unknown. -Anonymous. When nightingales sing / in the sweet purple iris / of the Fifth Month I / am unmindful of the warp / on which we weave love’s pattern. KKS XI: 470 Sosei. The white dew settling / on the chrysanthemums and / I whose nights are made / restless by these barren tidings / will vanish in the morning sun. KKS XI: 471 -Ki no Tsurayuki. so suddenly was / my heart dyed with passion for / you it leapt high as / the waves in the waters of / the swift Yoshino River (Rodd 2017, pp. 183-184).
KKS XI: 469 Topic unknown. -Anonymous. This love has cast me / into confusion as sweet / as sweet flags growing / in the Fifth Month, in the time / when cuckoos come forth to sing.
KKS XI: 470 -Monk Sosei. Though I but know you / through others, love has made me / like chrysanthemum dew, / rising by night and by day / fading into nothingness.
KKS XI: 471 -Ki no Tsurayuki. Swift indeed has been / the birth of my love for you - / swift as the current / where waves break high over rocks / in the Yoshino River. (McCullough 1985, p. 111)
