[歌たてまつれとおほせられし時に]よみてたてまつれるきのつらゆきゆくとしのをしくもあるかますかゝみ／みるかけさゑにくれぬとおもへは

Transliteration

[uta tatematsuredo oboserareshi toki ni] yomite tatematsureru
ki no tsurayuki
KKS VI: 342 yuku toshi no / oshiku mo aru ka {na} / masu kagami / miru kage sae ni / kurenu to omoeba

Translation

KKS VI: 342 On being [commanded to present a poem.] -Ki no Tsurayuki. the passing year too / leaves regrets as it departs— / in the clear mirror / the reflection dims as I / think of the time now gone by (Rodd 2017, p. 144)

KKS VI: 342 Composed and [submitted by imperial command.] -Ki no Tsurayuki. My heart fills with gloom / as I watch the year depart, / for shadows descend / even on the face I see / reflected in the mirror. (McCullough 1985, p. 82)
