年の内に春はきにけり一とせを/こそとやいはむことしとやいはむ 元方

Transliteration

kokinshū
KKS I: 1 toshi no uchi ni / haru wa ki ni keri / hitotose wo / kozo to ya iwamu / kotoshi to ya iwamu motokata

Translation

KKS I: 1 spring is here before / year’s end when New Year’s Day has / not yet come around / what should we call it is it / still last year or is it this –[Ariwara no] Motokata (Rodd 2017, p. 49)

KKS I: 1 Springtime has arrived / while the old year lingers on. / What then of the year? / Are we to talk of 'last year'? / Or are we to say 'this year'? –[Ariwara] Motokata (McCullough 1985, p. 14)
