はるの夜のやみ/はあやなし/むめのは/な/いろこそ/みえね/香や/は/か/く/るゝ

Transliteration

KKS I: 41 haru no yo no / yami wa ayanashi / mume no hana / iro koso miene / ka ya wa kakururu

Translation

KKS I: 41 how foolish is the darkness on this spring night—through it conceals the plum blossoms’ charm and color it cannot hide their perfume (Rodd 2017, p. 60)

KKS I: 41 Ineffectual / the darkness of this spring night: / true, we cannot see / the bloom of the flowering plum, but can its scent be hidden? (McCullough 1985, p. 22)
