[修法は、おこたりはてたまふまでとのたひおきけるを、よろしくなり]にけりとてあさりもかへし／たまひてけれはいとひとす／くなにてれいのおい人いて／きて御ありさまきこゆ／そこはかとなくいたき所もなくておとろ／＼しから／ぬ御なやみにものをなむ／さらにきこしめさぬもと／よりひとにに給はすあえ／かにおはしますうちにこの[この宮の御事出で来にし後、いとども思したるさまにて、はかなき御くだものだに御覧じ入れざりしつもりにや、あさましく弱くなりたまひて、さらに頼むべくも見えたまはず。]

ni keri tote azari mo kaeshi tamaite kereba ito hito zukuna nite rei no oibito idekite onarisama kikoyu sokohaka to naku itaki tokoro mo nakute odoro odoroshikaranu onnayami ni mono wo namu sara ni kikoshimesanu moto yori hito ni ni tamawazu aeka ni owashimasu uchi ni kono
[kono miya no onkoto ide ki ni shi nochi, itodo mo oboshitaru sama nite, hakanaki onkudamono dani goranji irezari shi tsumori ni ya, asamashiku yowaku nari tamaite, sarani tanomu beku mo mie tamawazu.]

Genji Monogatari XLVII Agemaki: A Bowknot Tied in Maiden’s Loops
He [Kaoru] had left orders that healing rites were to be conducted thoroughly with no letup, but the Princess had sent the ascetic back to his mountain retreat, insisting that she was feeling much better. There were few people attending her when Kaoru arrived, and so, as always, he summoned Bennokimi and asked about her mistress’s condition. “Her symptoms are vague,” the old woman informed him, “and she doesn’t seem to be suffering from anything serious…it’s just that she won’t eat anything, my lord. She’s always been extremely delicate compared to most women, but ever since our young mistress’s affair with Prince Niou began, her mood has darkened and she goes on refusing to even glance at the slightest piece of fruit. She’s shockingly emaciated, and her condition seems hopeless now.” (Washburn 2011, pp. 1027-1028)

She has always been unusually frail, and now, ever since this began with His Highness, her spirits have sunk lower and lower, till she will not look at the smallest bit of fruit—I am sure that that is why she is so very weak and seems unlikely to live.” (Tyler 2001, p. 904)
